Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman on Tuesday issued a travel ban on Sifat Ali, husband of the late Fahmida Tahsin Keya, a former student of Vikarunnesa Noon School and College, in connection with her murder case registered at Mirpur Police Station’s Sheorapara area.
The order was given following a petition filed by the plaintiff’s lawyer. Plaintiff’s counsel Isfakur Rahman Galib confirmed the development, saying, “Keya was murdered by her husband Sifat Ali. Today, we applied for a travel ban on him. After hearing, the court granted the request.”
The case names several accused including Sifat Ali, Disha Sikdar, Kazi Maruf Newaz Prem, Md Azad Hossain, Monir, Md Jibon, driver Mukul, Mahfuz Sikdar, driver Imtiaz, and some unidentified persons alleged to be involved.
According to the case statement, Syeda Fahmida Tahsin Keya married Sifat Ali about 13 years ago. They had one daughter and three sons. Since their marriage, Keya reportedly faced domestic disputes, physical abuse, and cruelty from her drug-addicted husband. On the night of August 14, between midnight and 1:56am, Sifat Ali, along with others, conspired and murdered Keya at a flat in West Sheorapara, Mirpur.
Following the incident, Sifat Ali contacted his mother-in-law and Nazma Begum late at night. When they searched for Keya, Sifat first told them to go to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but later changed the instruction to BRB Hospital. Upon arrival, they discovered Keya was dead. Hospital authorities advised transferring her body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician officially declared her dead.
Further investigations revealed injuries on Keya’s neck, right arm, and various parts of her body, including signs of strangulation. In response, Keya’s mother, Nazma Begum, filed a murder case at Mirpur Model Police Station.
