A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on the wife and two children of former Minister of State for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders, allowing three separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday.
Earlier, ACC Assistant Director Md Nazmul Islam filed three separate applications seeking travel restrictions on Zakir Hossain’s wife Suraiya Sultana, son Safayet bin Zakir and daughter Zakia Tabassum.
According to the applications, the ACC served asset disclosure notices on Suraiya, Safayet and Zakia. The commission found evidence that they directly assisted former state minister Zakir Hossain in acquiring illegal wealth.
The ACC expressed concern that they might attempt to leave the country. It said restrictions on their foreign travel are necessary to ensure proper investigation.
The applications also sought instructions for the Immigration and Passport Department to take effective measures to prevent them from leaving Bangladesh.
