Road Transport, Rail, and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam met EU Ambassador Michael Miller in Dhaka on Tuesday to discuss transport partnership.

The meeting focused on expanding bilateral engagement and exploring new areas of collaboration in communication infrastructure, including railways, shipping and broader transport development.

Shaikh Rabiul Alam expressed gratitude to the European Union for its continued support in developing Bangladesh’s communication infrastructure.

He said “EU remains a trusted development partner and the government is keen to further strengthen engagement with it.”

He also highlighted the EU’s contribution across multiple sectors, especially transport infrastructure, and expressed optimism that cooperation would continue in a spirit of mutual respect and shared interest.

EU Ambassador Michael Miller expressed interest in increasing investment in Bangladesh’s transport sector, particularly in railways, and in developing Chittagong Port as a key global gateway.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the ongoing partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the coming years.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Shipping and other concerned ministries were also present at the meeting.
