Train services on the Dhaka–Chattogram, Dhaka–Sylhet, Dhaka–Noakhali, and Bhairab–Mymensingh routes remained suspended following a train derailment in Kishoreganj. The incident occurred near Bhairab Railway Station early Tuesday.

According to sources at Bhairab station, the Dhaka Mail (2 Down) departed Dhaka for Chattogram at 11:45pm on Monday. The train made a brief stop at Bhairab station around 2:45am. After ten minutes, it received the signal to depart. While moving slowly for about 150 metres, one bogie of the train derailed.

Several mail trains, including the Intercity Parabat, Intercity Upaban, and Titas Commuter, were stranded at different stations due to the derailment. The Intercity Bijoy Express from Mymensingh to Chattogram and the Cox’s Bazar Express from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar also remained stranded at the station.

Thousands of passengers faced severe inconvenience due to the incident.

Around four hours and forty-five minutes after the incident, a rescue train reached Akhaura to salvage the derailed train.

In the morning, Bhairab Railway Station Master Md Yusuf said, “Rescue operations are ongoing. It is not possible to say exactly when they will be completed. Due to the accident, almost all trains will experience delays of several hours.”
