Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay has arrived in Dhaka to attend the swearing-in of the new cabinet led by Prime Minister-elect Tarique Rahman, underscoring the enduring friendship and close bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan.
Foreign Adviser M Touhid Hossain received the Bhutanese leader at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon his arrival in the capital.
Dasho Tshering Tobgay will join the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister-elect Tarique Rahman.
He said, “The Government of Bangladesh has invited Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay to attend the Oath-Taking Ceremony of H.E. Mr. Tarique Rahman, Prime Minister-elect of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, on 17 February 2026,” the Bhutanese Embassy in Dhaka said in a press release issued in the morning.
The statement stated that the prime minister’s presence reflects Bhutan’s continued support and friendship with the people of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh and Bhutan share longstanding ties of trust, respect, and mutual confidence. The visit is widely seen as a reaffirmation of the close bilateral relations and a commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Dhaka and Thimphu.
