A three-year-old girl died after being hit by an autorickshaw in Begunbari area of Tejgaon in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Naureen, the only child of Md Nazim, a rickshaw puller, and Shirin Akter, a housewife. The family, originally from Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur, resides in Begunbari area.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:30pm near the slope of Begunbari Masjid Market. According to the child’s father, the incident took place while the parents were walking with Naureen in front of their residence.
The child reportedly let go of her father’s hand and ran to cross the road, at which point a speeding autorickshaw struck her with great force.
Naureen was thrown onto the road and sustained severe head injuries. She was immediately rescued and rushed to emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where attending doctors pronounced her dead.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH hospital police camp, confirmed the death. He said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
