A court has granted a two-day remand for Titumir College student Biswajit Chandra Burman (21) in a case filed over allegations of making Islamophobic statements and derogatory remarks about the Prophet.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifatullah’s court issued this order today, Monday. Prior to this, the police had applied for a five-day remand for the accused.
According to the case details, the accused posted offensive and religion-defaming comments targeting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) from a fake Facebook ID. Additionally, during conversations on Messenger, the accused at various times made derogatory comments against Islam, which were done with the intention of hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims.
Later, after identifying the accused, other students detained and interrogated him on the college campus on 26 November. At that time, he could not provide a satisfactory answer and admitted that he used to use the ID named “Fariya Akter”.
During this time, he was injured in an attack by agitated students. Later, Banani Thana police took him into custody.
