Popular TikToker Abdullah Al Mamun, widely known as Prince Mamun, has been granted bail in two separate cases involving allegations of demanding dowry, physical assault, and attempting suicide on Facebook Live.
Two separate courts in Dhaka passed the bail orders on Sunday following hearings. Mamun’s defence lawyer, Palash Roy, confirmed the development, mentioning that there are no legal obstacles to his client’s release from prison as there are no other pending cases against him.
According to legal sources, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raunak Jahan Taki granted Mamun bail in the assault case upon a surety bond of Tk1,000, which will remain effective until the police report is submitted.
Meanwhile, the judge of Dhaka CMM Court granted his bail petition in the second case, which was filed with Vatara Police Station over his alleged suicide attempt on Facebook Live.
Earlier, on 24 July, the court had ordered Prince Mamun to be sent to prison after he was arrested in connection with a case filed by his wife, Atqiya Faizah Mohona. The case accused him of physical torture and demanding a dowry of Tk1 crore.
The second case was also filed by Mohona at Vatara Police Station. She alleged that late on the night of 23 July, Mamun attempted to commit suicide at their residence in Bashundhara Residential Area by wrapping a saree around a ceiling fan during a Facebook Live broadcast.
Subsequently, on 25 July, the investigating officer, Vatara Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Yaur Rahman, petitioned the court to formally show Mamun arrested in the suicide attempt case.
On 29 July, the court directed authorities to record his arrest in that case in the presence of the accused.
