Three construction workers were critically injured on Friday morning after falling from an under-construction building that partially collapsed during the earthquake in Mirer Tank, Moghbazar.

They were rescued immediately and taken to Moghbazar Community Hospital. As the condition of two workers worsened, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Kala Mia, who runs a shop beside the site, said several workers were on the seventh floor when the tremor struck around 10:30am, causing part of the wall to collapse and sending the workers plummeting to the ground. Three of them suffered severe injuries.

Residents of the nearby Jahangir Tower said construction had been ongoing for several days, with labourers arriving from various parts of Dhaka in search of work.

According to the Meteorological Department, a moderate 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Madhabdi in Narsingdi at 10:38am.

Meanwhile, three pedestrians were killed in Old Dhaka’s Bangshal area when the railing of a building collapsed during the tremor.
