Bangladesh recorded three more suspected measles-related deaths in the 24 hours ending at 8am on Tuesday, raising the total number of deaths linked to the ongoing outbreak to 631, health authorities said.
According to a press release issued by the Integrated Control Centre under the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 980 new suspected measles cases were identified during the same period, while laboratory testing confirmed 54 additional infections.
Data compiled by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) showed that from 15 March to 9 June, a total of 81,084 suspected measles cases were reported across the country. Of these, 9,833 cases were confirmed through laboratory tests.
During the period, 66,170 patients with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals, while 62,292 recovered and were discharged after receiving treatment.
Health officials said the number of suspected measles-related deaths since 15 March has reached 539, while 92 deaths have been laboratory-confirmed, bringing the overall death toll to 631.
The three suspected deaths reported over the past 24 hours were from Dhaka, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions. District-wise, the deceased were residents of Dhaka, Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
Dhaka Division continues to bear the brunt of the outbreak, recording the highest number of infections and fatalities nationwide. The division has reported 37,798 suspected cases and 6,822 laboratory-confirmed infections so far.
A total of 223 suspected deaths and 56 confirmed deaths have been recorded in Dhaka Division, the highest figures among all divisions in the country.
