Three people, including two women, were killed and two others injured after a truck collided with a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh on Tuesday.
The accident took place around 11:30am in front of a truck depot near the Shambhuganj Palli Bidyut office on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in the city.
Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Khalid confirmed the incident.
He said the battery-run auto-rickshaw was travelling from Shambhuganj towards Kishoreganj when a truck coming out of a depot beside the road hit the vehicle.
The auto-rickshaw was badly damaged in the collision. One of the passengers, identified as Debraj Ghosh, died on the spot. Debraj, son of Dilip Ghosh of Jubilee Ghat area in Mymensingh city, was travelling in the vehicle.
The auto-rickshaw driver and three women were seriously injured in the accident. They were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared two of the women dead.
The deceased women were identified as Sheila, daughter of Abdul Motaleb of Dadra area in Tarakanda upazila, and Abeda, wife of Rafiqul Islam of Majhipara area in Shambhuganj.
Another woman is undergoing treatment at the hospital with serious injuries. The auto-rickshaw driver received primary treatment and left the hospital without informing authorities.
SI Khalid said one body was recovered from the spot while the bodies of the two women were kept at the hospital morgue. Legal action over the incident is under process, he added.
