Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three alleged drug traders with 23.5 kilograms of cannabis and seized a pickup van used for transporting narcotics during a raid in Jatrabari.
The operation was conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the Dholaipar intersection area under Jatrabari Police Station around 3:30am on Wednesday.
The arrestees were identified as Md Mostakin Mia alias Mostakim alias Arman, 21, Sheikh Faisal, 24, and Md Arif Mia, 30.
According to DB Motijheel Division, detectives launched the drive after receiving secret information that a group of drug traders was staying in the area to sell narcotics.
During the raid, police recovered 23.5 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated market value of Tk4.7 lakh.
The pickup van allegedly used for transporting the drugs was also seized from their possession. Police filed a case against the three under the Narcotics Control Act with Jatrabari Police Station.
DB officials said the arrestees had long been collecting cannabis from border areas and selling it in different parts of Dhaka. During preliminary interrogation, the suspects admitted they had kept the seized cannabis in their possession for sale, according to DB sources.
The accused were later sent to court.
