Three factory workers sustained injuries after being stabbed by miscreants near the Ibn Sina Hospital in the capital’s Malibagh area on Friday evening.
The victims, identified as Karimon, 17, Nabi, 16, and Rifat, 18, are currently receiving medical treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
According to Mahfuzur Rahman, an acquaintance who escorted the injured to the hospital, the incident occurred around 6:30pm.
Karimon and Rifat are employed at a garment factory located on Malibagh Bazar Road, where they also reside, while Nabi lives and works on signboards. As Friday was a public holiday, the three had gathered in Malibagh area.
The confrontation began when miscreants intercepted the group while they were passing the hospital.
The attackers struck Karimon with a switchgear and snatched his mobile phone. In response, bystanders and those nearby managed to apprehend one of the attackers and beat him up.
Shortly after, the miscreants who had initially escaped returned to the scene with reinforcements. The gang stabbed the remaining two workers indiscriminately, and freed their detained associate before escaping
The three injured workers were initially rushed to Mugda Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced medical care.
Hospital sources said all three sustained stab injuries to the abdomen
Md Faruk, In-charge of DMCH Police Camp, stated that the victims are currently receiving treatment at the emergency department. He added that the relevant police station has been formally notified of the incident to initiate a further investigation.
