Three people, including two construction workers and a local BNP leader, died in separate electrocution incidents in Sylhet and Gaibandha districts on Friday.

In Sylhet, two construction workers, including a woman, died after being electrocuted while working near an excavator at Daripoton in Golapganj upazila.

The deceased were identified as Jharna Begum, 40, of Netrakona district, and Abdur Rahman, 45, of Sunamganj district.

Police said the accident occurred when the excavator, used for earth excavation, came into contact with an overhead live electricity line, causing the machine to become electrified.

Golapganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ariful Islam said both workers were standing near the excavator when they were electrocuted on the spot. Police later recovered the bodies.

In a separate incident in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila, a local BNP leader died after being electrocuted while repairing a domestic electricity line.

The deceased was identified as Pradip Kumar Babu, 57, son of the late Santosh Kumar of Purba Chaparhati Bamontari village.

He was an upazila-level leader of the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Kalyan Front and also a prominent member of the Chaparhati Union unit of the BNP.

Local sources said he was working on the electrical line at his residence around 5pm when he was accidentally electrocuted.

Family members and locals rushed him to hospital, but he died on the way near Dariapur Bazar area on the way to Gaibandha General Hospital.

Chaparhati Union Parishad Chairman Konok Kumar Goswami confirmed the incident. Police said they have recovered the bodies and legal procedures are underway.
