Shariatpur police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the three main suspects in the murder of pharmacy owner and bKash agent Khokon Das, 50.
The accused have been identified as Sohag, Rabbi, and Polash.
The arrests took place in a special operation on early Sunday 1am in Bajitpur, Kishoreganj.
The operation was conducted by RAB-14, CPC-2, Kishoreganj camp, based on intelligence provided by the intelligence wing in Dhaka, under the supervision of Company Commander ASP Shahjahan.
Shariatpur Superintendent of Police Rownak Jahan confirmed that Khokon Das had named the assailants before his death.
She said Khokon Das, a medicine shop owner and bKash agent, was returning home after closing his business at Kehrbanga Bazar around 9:30pm on 31 December.
When he reached the Tiloi area near his house, three to four unknown assailants attacked him with sharp weapons. They slashed him across his body and stole cash he was carrying.
Several of the attackers were recognised by the victim. They attempted to set him on fire by pouring petrol over his body and face.
Local residents rushed to his aid, prompting the assailants to flee.
Khokon Das was rescued in a critically injured and burned condition and taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
Doctors advised advanced treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but he died while undergoing treatment.
Rownak Jahan said the suspects were known locally as troublemakers and were reported to use various drugs.
