The Simpsons Game could soon become much easier to play after a fan-led recompilation project successfully brought the 2007 title to PC, offering new hope for one of the franchise’s most overlooked video game adaptations, states Screen Rant.
Originally released for multiple platforms, including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, The Simpsons Game followed Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie as they navigated a story packed with pop culture satire and self-aware humour.
While it never reached the iconic status of The Simpsons: Hit & Run or Road Rage, the game has maintained a loyal fan following thanks to its original storyline and comedic writing.
According to a post shared by Reddit user YesterMester, the Xbox 360 version has now been successfully recompiled to run natively on PC.
“I’ve now fully recompiled the game’s CPU instructions to native PC code,” the developer wrote. “There’s still a lot of work left and some known issues, but it’s up and playable.”
The creator described the project as a personal passion, explaining that The Simpsons Game was the first video game they ever played and that they wanted to preserve a title they believe has largely been forgotten.
Although the project remains a work in progress, the early milestone has generated excitement among fans eager to revisit the game on modern hardware.
Community members praised the effort, with many calling it a long-awaited revival. Others thanked the developer for preserving a game that has become increasingly difficult to access as older console hardware continues to age.
One of the project’s most anticipated future features is planned modding support, which could allow fans to create new content, gameplay enhancements and graphical improvements once development progresses further.
The unofficial PC port arrives at a time when The Simpsons has largely disappeared from the console gaming landscape. Following several releases during the 2000s, including Hit & Run, Road Rage and The Simpsons Game, the franchise has seen few major console titles over the past decade, with most recent releases focusing on mobile platforms.
While there is no indication that an official remaster or new Simpsons console game is in development, fan preservation projects such as this continue to keep classic titles alive for a new generation of players.
