Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ latest action film ‘The Bluff’ has emerged as the most watched original film across global streaming platforms, even as it opened to mixed critical reception.
According to Variety, the pirate adventure topped the Streaming Originals Film chart for the period between February 27 and March 5. The film, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in February, recorded an estimated 300.3 million minutes of viewership during the tracking period.
The second spot on the chart was secured by ‘Accused’, directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and released on Netflix. Starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta, the psychological thriller revolves around a London based gynaecologist who faces allegations of sexual misconduct at work. The film registered about 213.1 million minutes of viewing.
‘Firebreak’, directed by David Victori, followed in third place with around 177.2 million minutes of viewership after its release on Netflix. In fourth position was the documentary ‘Paul McCartney: Man on the Run’, directed by Morgan Neville and released on Prime Video, which logged approximately 156.2 million minutes.
The top five was rounded out by ‘The Wrecking Crew’, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, which drew an estimated 110.6 million minutes of viewing on Prime Video.
Despite the divided reviews, fans of Chopra have welcomed the film’s strong streaming performance. Many took to social media to praise the actor’s effort and celebrate the milestone.
Set in the Cayman Islands, The Bluff follows the story of Ercell Borden, played by Chopra, who lives in a Caribbean fishing community with her son and sister in law. When a pirate named Connor, portrayed by Karl Urban, begins hunting her to settle old scores, she is forced to confront a past she had tried to leave behind.
To protect her family, Ercell embraces her feared alter ego Bloody Mary, a legendary pirate figure, leading to a series of high stakes confrontations that include sword fights and gun battles.
The film is directed by Frank E Flowers and produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo and Angela Russo-Otstot under the banner AGBO. It also features Safia Oakley-Green, Temuera Morrison, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Zack Morris and David Field in supporting roles.
The Bluff has been streaming on Prime Video since February 25.
