Police have recovered the hanging body of a 15-year-old girl, Kotha Biswas, from her home in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
The incident took place at the family residence on Commissioner Road in Mohammadpara. Kotha, an SSC candidate, was the daughter of Probhat Biswas and the wife of Prince Baidya.
Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, said Kotha’s husband found her early in the morning, hanging from the attic beam with a scarf wrapped around her neck. On hearing his screams, family members rushed in and took her to the 250-bed General Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Police said the body was later recovered and sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy after the authorities notified them. Investigators have yet to determine whether the death was a suicide or a murder.
Evidence has been collected from the scene, and statements from relatives and others present are being recorded. Officials said the cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem report is available.
According to the family, the couple married four months ago and had been experiencing ongoing domestic disputes. They believe Kotha may have taken her own life out of emotional distress.
