A tea stall owner was hacked to death in Gobindaganj Upazila of Gaibandha early Thursday.
The victim, 48-year-old Mahidul Islam Sardar, was a resident of Ramchandrapur village under Horiramapur Union and ran a tea stall at the nearby Shibpur Bazar.
Police recovered the body on Thursday morning after locals spotted it lying in a pool of blood beside his house.
According to residents, assailants attacked Mahidul late on late Wednesday, striking his head and several parts of his body with sharp weapons. When he failed to return home, his family began searching for him. His body was discovered the next morning in a yard adjacent to his house.
Officers from Gobindaganj Police Station arrived at the scene and sent the body to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Ghobindaganj Police Station officer-in-charge Bulbul Ahmed confirmed the matter.
He said police had launched an investigation to determine the motive and identify those involved, adding that efforts were under way to arrest the perpetrators and that legal procedures were being followed.
