Tasnim Jara has announced her decision to contest as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9 constituency in the upcoming National Parliament Election.
She made the announcement via a statement posted on her verified Facebook account on Saturday.
Prior to this, Tasnim Jara had been serving as senior joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) since its formation. Sources from within the party on condition of anonymity revealed to TIMES of Bangladesh that she has officially resigned from the post and is no longer a member of NCP.
In the statement, Tasnim Jara said that, as a child of Khilgaon, her lifelong dream has been to serve the people of her area. Although she had plans to serve the country as a Member of Parliament, under the current circumstances, she has decided not to contest the election under any specific political party or alliance.
However, to uphold the promise she made to the nation of building a new political culture, she will contest as an independent candidate, she added.

Addressing her Dhaka-9 constituency residents in Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, and Mugda, she said, “As an independent candidate, I will have no party office or well-organised workforce. As your daughter, my only reliance is on you. I seek your support for my indomitable desire to work with honesty and dedication.”
According to electoral rules, in order to participate as an independent candidate, the candidate would require signatures from 1% of eligible voters of the constituency to qualify. For Dhaka-9, Tasnim Jara requires signatures from 4,693 voters.
“Organising signatures from so many people in just one day is almost an impossible task,” she said.
Stating that the work of collecting these signatures will begin from Sunday, she urged residents to come forward.
Additionally, paying respect to those who had previously donated to her election fund considering her as a party candidate, she said that if anyone wishes to get their money back due to the changed circumstances, they can do so by filling out a specific form. This money will be refunded through proper procedure upon verification of the transaction ID.
