Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday sought China’s support for Bangladesh’s development projects and construction of China-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital.
Tarique made the call with Liu Haixing, minister of International Affairs of the Communist Party of China, at State Diaoyutai Guest House in Beijing at 9:15am local time.
At the start of the meeting, Liu congratulated Tarique on assuming office as the prime minister. He noted that former prime minister Khaleda Zia visited China nine times and mentioned that a photograph of her 2001 visit is preserved in her honour at Museum of the Communist Party of China.
Regarding political ties, Liu referenced Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between BNP and Communist Party of China, expressing an interest in further enhancing communication and cooperation between the two parties, reports BSS.
He expressed hope that new areas of cooperation would be created, specifically in media, think-tanks, people-to-people contact, and the improvement of living standards.
The leader said China is a strong supporter of Bangladesh’s sovereignty, security, and development, and stressed the importance of advancing bilateral relations based on mutual respect and cooperation.
In response, Tarique looked forward to China’s cooperation in development initiatives and the hospital project, hoping the legacy of long-standing friendly relations between the two countries would continue.
Liu agreed with Tarique’s statement and expressed hope that the people of Bangladesh would enjoy a better life under the leadership of him.
The meeting was attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir.
Also present were State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Prime Minister’s Adviser and Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, and Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon.
The Chinese delegation included Sun Haiyan, vice minister of the International Department of Communist Party of China, the Chinese ambassador in Dhaka, and other officials.
