BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to carry out a two-day programme on 26 and 27 December, combining tributes to national and party figures with key administrative formalities linked to the upcoming parliamentary election.
He returned to Bangladesh on Thursday after 17 years in exile and will begin his activities on Friday with Jummah prayers.
On Friday, he will visit the grave of his father, BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to pay his respects.
Later, that day, he is scheduled to visit the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar and place wreaths in honour of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
On Saturday, 27 December, he will complete formalities for his National Identity (NID) card and voter registration-procedural requirements for formal participation in the electoral process ahead of the national polls, expected in February 2026.
The same day, he will visit the grave of martyred student leader Osman Hadi at University of Dhaka.
Tarique is also scheduled to meet individuals injured during the July 2024 mass uprising at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in Shyamoli that day, party sources said.
BNP leaders said earlier that the programmes have been designed to minimise public inconvenience and will be carried out on a limited scale. Similar instructions were issued by him during his return to the country.
