BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will visit his mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, at Evercare Hospital following the grand reception on 25 December.
The schedule was announced on Wednesday by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed at a press conference at the party’s Gulshan office in Dhaka. He said the party has arranged a three-day programme to mark Tarique Rahman’s return.
Tarique Rahman is set to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:50am on Thursday on a Biman Bangladesh flight. He will be received by BNP Standing Committee members before proceeding to the reception venue at 300 Feet in Purbachal, where he will deliver a short speech. After the event, he will visit Evercare Hospital to see his mother.
On 26 December (Friday), following Jumma prayers, the BNP leader will visit the mazar of his father, Ziaur Rahman, former president, and the Savar National Memorial.
On Saturday, 27 December, Tarique Rahman will first apply for his national ID at the Election Commission, then pay tribute at the grave of Sharif Osman Hadi. He will also visit the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) to meet the injured victims from the July uprising.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Media Cell Convener Moudud Alamgir Pavel, and Tarique Rahman’s chief security officer Shamsul Islam were present at the press conference.
Salahuddin Ahmed also requested public cooperation to minimise traffic and disruptions during Tarique’s return.
Tarique, accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman, will travel under tight security, with arrangements coordinated between the party and law enforcement authorities. The reception in Purbachal is expected to attract a massive turnout of party leaders, activists, and supporters from across the country.
This planned itinerary underscores Tarique Rahman’s first engagements in Bangladesh since leaving the country in 2008.
