BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is returning to his homeland after nearly 18 years. He has arrived at Heathrow Airport with his family.

Earlier today, Tarique left his London home at 8:05pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday, according to BNP Media Cell sources.

Tarique’s flight will depart London for Dhaka at 12:15am Bangladesh time. The BNP acting chairman is expected to set foot on home soil around 12 noon on Thursday. He will be accompanied by his wife, Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, Zaima Rahman.

Special security arrangements have been made. A large number of law enforcement personnel have been deployed in the capital’s Purbachal area.

The BNP is preparing to give its acting chairman the largest reception in recent memory. The party hopes that more than 5 million leaders and activists will gather in Dhaka. Tarique will go directly to Purbachal from the airport. Preparations are underway to accord him a reception there.

BNP sources said the party has arranged a mass reception in the Purbachal Highway Express area of Kuril in the capital on the occasion of the acting chairman’s return.

Party leaders and activists are working to keep the entire programme orderly and safe. Various steps have been taken by both the party and the government’s law enforcement agencies to ensure security.

Tarique Rahman went to the United Kingdom with his family after being released from jail in 2008. Since then, he has been residing there. While his wife, Zubaida Rahman, visited Bangladesh several times, Tarique Rahman was unable to return due to various circumstances.
