BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman completed the National Identity Card (NID) enrollment process at the Election Commission on Saturday.
He arrived at the Election Training Institute (ETI) in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar around 1pm for this purpose, and left around 1:20pm.
Prior to this, around 12:20pm, Tarique’s wife, Zubaida Rahman, and daughter, Zaima Rahman, arrived at the ETI. Zaima left the EC premises around 12:45 pm after completing her NID registration process.
During this time, strict security measures were taken in and around the Election Commission building. Police, RAB, and other forces were seen deployed in the EC premises. Tarique entered the EC through a tight security cordon.
Meanwhile, for security reasons, journalists and the public are not being allowed to enter the Election Commission building. The entire EC building was effectively shrouded in a security blanket.
