Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated on Wednesday that the government is prepared to engage in discussions with the opposition regarding any proposal related to national interests, emphasising that the state will be governed based on the hopes and aspirations of the people.
Speaking in Parliament in response to a discussion proposal on a matter of urgent public importance raised by the Leader of the Opposition, the prime minister highlighted that issues such as energy, the economy, and security are highly significant in the current global context.
He noted that these issues are not only vital for Bangladesh but carry significance for the entire world.
Tarique added that while there may be differences of opinion on matters discussed in Parliament, it is possible to build a consensus among all political parties for the sake of the country’s interests.
“We do not want any division concerning the interests of the people of Bangladesh,” he said, adding that the government is ready to consider any proposal intended for public welfare.
The prime minister underscored the importance of using Parliament as the primary platform for finding effective solutions through joint discussions between the government and the opposition.
He further stated that the government remains ready to accept and discuss proposals of public interest from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and other political organisations.
“Regardless of our position, the interests of the people are our priority,” the prime minister said. He assured that the government would take initiatives to quickly implement proposals that are realistic and effective for public welfare.
Emphasising that Parliament should be the centre of national consensus, he concluded by thanking all members, including those from the opposition, and asserting that national progress can be ensured through discussion and cooperation within the democratic process.
