After Daagi, actress Tama Mirza held meetings with several directors and production houses about upcoming films, with some projects reportedly reaching advanced stages.

However, she ultimately did not formally commit to any of them.

The actress has now signed a new film directed by Vicky Zahed, according to multiple sources familiar with the project.

The initial title of the film is Khalnayak, although the name may be changed later.

Sources said Tama signed the contract some time ago, but neither she nor the director and production house Alpha-i has made an official announcement yet.

Shooting is expected to begin in Dhaka towards the end of this month or in the first week of next month.

Confirming her involvement, Tama said, “I am doing a film. I have worked with the production house before and had a great experience. So I felt that returning after Daagi with an even better story would be the right decision for me. I also really liked my character. The production house can share the remaining details.”

The production house is reportedly planning to release the film by the end of this year. However, Toma said she was not aware of the exact release date.

Alongside acting, Toma has also begun a new professional chapter.

For nearly three months, she has been working at a private bank as an Assistant Vice President (AVP) in Brand and Communications.

“I am really enjoying the new experience,” she said. “There are new colleagues, a new environment and I have made new friends. Overall, things are going very well.”

Asked whether her new profession would make her less active in acting, Toma said acting remains her first love.

“Acting is my first love and the place I enjoy the most. I am here and will remain here, InshaAllah, for the rest of my life. The bank authorities are also very supportive of my acting, so there is no problem continuing my work in films,” she said.

Tama sees her banking career as an opportunity to explore something beyond acting and gain new experiences.

“I choose my acting projects very carefully. I usually work in one or two films a year. Being able to explore something else during the rest of the year is a wonderful opportunity. I want to make the most of it and gain experience,” she said.

In December 2023, Toma appeared in Dui Bondhu, a web series directed by West Bengal singer-filmmaker Anjan Dutt.

It marked her first project with a filmmaker from Kolkata.

Tama was initially nervous about working with Dutt, but said the discomfort quickly disappeared after shooting began.

She was impressed by his direction and the professional working environment in Kolkata.

The series was shot over nine consecutive days, with the team working in a single shift each day.

“The team was very organised. Everyone knew exactly what they had to do. I learnt a lot from the experience,” she said.

However, the series has yet to be released, and Toma said she has received no update about its release.

“I do not want to talk about it anymore. The producer and director can say what its fate will be. I am not thinking about it anymore,” she said.

Toma won the National Film Award for her performance in Shahnewaz Kakoli’s Nodijon in 2015.

Over the years, she has continued to reinvent herself through diverse roles in films including Khachar Bhitor Ochin Pakhi, Seven Number Floor, Friday, Surongo and most recently Daagi.
