Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher said Bangladesh, under the current circumstances, needs greater understanding among major political parties.
He added that more consensus, cooperation and principled unity are essential for the future of national politics and the upcoming election. He urged political parties and citizens to act with patience, wisdom and a sense of responsibility, prioritising the interests of the country.
Taher returned home on Monday after receiving treatment at United Hospital in Gulshan. He spoke briefly to journalists at the hospital gate, saying he was returning home in improved condition by the grace of Allah.
He expressed gratitude to people across the country who prayed for his recovery, offered special prayers, observed fasts and sought blessings at the Kaaba on his behalf.
Taher said renowned cardiologist Dr Moniruzzaman and his team had examined him and found his arterial blockage to be extremely hardened, making the stenting procedure difficult.
A medical board comprising Dr Moniruzzaman, Dr Jahangir Kabir and a kidney specialist was formed to assess whether he should undergo open-heart surgery or be sent to Singapore for treatment.
Tader said he insisted on receiving the stent procedure in Dhaka, which was carried out successfully, allowing him to return home.
He expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, praying for her recovery.
The Jamaat leader described her as a patriotic and democratic leader, adding that despite political differences, she is now regarded as a leader of the people. He said the Jamaat-e-Islami has already held several programmes seeking prayers for her wellbeing.
