A suspected robber was killed in a mob beating during an alleged robbery in Pirojpur, while another was detained and handed over to police on Saturday night.
Several members of the group managed to flee the scene during the chase by locals.
The incident took place at the home of former UP member Anukul Chandra Roy, widely known as Dulal, in Paschim Durgapur village in the upazila.
According to Dulal’s brother, Amalesh Chandra Roy, the robbers reportedly held the family at knifepoint and took a gold chain, earrings, a bracelet, and other ornaments.
Police said the identity of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed.
However, the detainee has been identified as Sabuj Hawlader, 55, of Dehergati village in Babuganj upazila of Barishal.
Sub-Inspector Molla Ramij Jahan Jumma said a police team, led by SI Radha Roman, rescued the two injured suspects around 2:30am after receiving a call.
