A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for Khadija Yasmin Bithi, the daughter of top criminal Subrata Bain, in the case of the killing of Jubo Dal leader Arif.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farha Farzana Haque passed the order on Thursday after a hearing.
Earlier, police sought a seven-day remand for her.
The investigating officer of the case, Inspector Md Majharul Islam of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) produced Khadija Yasmin before the court and submitted the remand petition.
The remand application stated that top criminal Subrata Bain, also known as Fateh AliFateh Ali, and his daughter Khadija Yasmin were attempting to establish dominance in the capital’s Mogbazar and Hatirjheel areas.
It said that in the political situation following 5 August, they identified Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikder as an adversary.
The application further mentioned that Arif Sikder was shot dead as a result of their direct instigation and planning, and that important information and evidence regarding Khadija Yasmin’s involvement in the incident had been obtained.
Police claimed that taking her on remand was necessary for a proper investigation of the case and to uncover the actual facts behind the incident.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman ordered Khadija Yasmin to be sent to jail as the main case documents were with the sessions court, and fixed Thursday for the remand hearing.
According to the case documents, Arif Sikder was the former joint sports secretary of Jubo Dal, Ward 36, Dhaka Metropolitan North.
On 19 April, he was shot in front of ‘The Jheel Cafe’ on Nayatola Morol Lane under Hatirjheel police station.
He was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critically injured condition, where he died on 21 April while undergoing treatment.
In connection with the incident, the victim’s sister Rima Akter filed a case for attempted murder with Hatirjheel police station against 10 people, including Subrata Bain’s associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipul.
After Arif Sikder’s death, the case was converted into a murder case.
