Bangladesh Students’ Union has issued a statement condemning the recent release of documents pertaining to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, labelling it a “state-managed smokescreen” designed to protect the ruling class.
In a press release dated 2 February, the organisation expressed deep concern and anger at the announcement by the US Department of Justice and state authorities that no new judicial proceedings would be initiated based on the newly revealed documents.
Bangladesh Students’ Union President Tamzid Haider Chowdhury Chanchol and General Secretary Shimul Kumbhkar issued the press release.
The statement argues that this decision concretely demonstrates that the capitalist state is not a neutral entity, but an instrument of organised ruling-class power whose primary function is to conceal the crimes of its own class.
It asserts that Epstein was not an isolated case of “moral deviance,” but the operator of an organised sexual-exploitation network connected to billionaires, politicians, state security apparatus, and corporate elites. The crimes, the Union states, would not have been possible without state patronage and class impunity.
The release contends that the document disclosure, which hints at names and relationships, is not genuine transparency. It describes the move as a “strategy of neutralising public outrage through controlled disclosure,” calling it the naked form of bourgeois democracy.
Bangladesh Students’ Union (Bangladesh Chhatra Union) outlined that the sequence of events proves the law is a weapon of impunity for the ruling class and an instrument of repression for the oppressed.
It declares that capitalism, imperialism, and patriarchy are inextricably linked, and that the sexual violence exposed represents the ultimate form of human commodification inherent in the capitalist system. It concludes that justice cannot be achieved through moral or legal reforms within the current system.
The Union firmly declared that only an independent, international, and democratic investigation – possible only by dismantling the ruling class-controlled state apparatus – can bring the crimes to justice. It stated that genuine justice can be achieved solely through the revolutionary movement of organised peasants, workers, and oppressed people.
The press release concludes by stating the Epstein scandal is an indictment of the capitalist system itself, and that without its end, the continuum of exploitation, oppression, and sexual crime will not cease.
