Dhaka stocks ended a volatile week on Thursday, recovering partially from a three-day losing streak, as bargain hunters seized the opportunity to purchase undervalued stocks. This recovery followed a period of uncertainty, with investors taking advantage of lower prices.
On the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the DSE Broad Index (DSEX) increased by 50.64 points, or 0.92 percent, to close at 5523.78. The DS-30 Index rose by 21.18 points, or 1 percent, to reach 2151.08. The DSES Shariah Index also saw an increase of 8.08 points, or 0.68 percent, closing at 1196.31.
These gains reflected the market’s recovery after three consecutive days of losses, mainly driven by aggressive profit booking.
Turnover on the premier bourse for the day amounted to Tk 778 crore, which decreased by Tk 172 crore from the previous session’s Tk 950 crore, indicating a dip in trading volume but still maintaining overall robust activity.
Among the 401 companies traded, 282 saw their share prices increase, while 54 companies experienced a decline. The share prices of 65 companies remained unchanged.
Notable performers included S. Alam Cold Rolled, IPDC, and Rupali Life Insurance, which recorded some of the highest price increases, contributing to the market’s partial recovery. On the other hand, Peoples Leasing, Fareast Finance, and Premier Leasing saw the biggest price decreases, marking them as the top losers for the day.
In terms of turnover, Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag, Summit Alliance Port, and Robi Axiata led the market, with the highest transaction volumes of the day, indicating strong investor interest in these stocks.
Despite the lower trading volume, stockbrokers noted that the positive momentum in the market showed signs of resilience, suggesting potential for further recovery in the coming days.
