Stocks on Sunday commenced the week on a strong footing with broad-based price appreciation across most scrips, particularly riding on investors sustained buying interest and heightened participation in banking sector scrips.
DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), advanced by 39.1 points, or 0.8 per cent, to settle at 5,193 points, compared with 5,154 points in the previous trading session.
Market analysts observed that the indices opened on a positive note and sustained a buoyant trajectory throughout the session, driven by opportunistic investors repositioning into fundamentally strong scrips amid expectations of favourable market momentum.
Market turnover increased by 13.9 per cent to Tk6.3 billion from Tk5.5 billion in the previous session.
On the sectoral front, bank stocks accounted for the highest turnover at 18.3 per cent, followed by pharmaceuticals at 13.2 per cent and general insurance at 10.3 per cent.
Sectoral performance was mixed, with services falling 1.7 per cent, telecom declining 1.7 per cent and textiles dropping 1.1 per cent, while banks gained 3.1 per cent, cement rose 2.2 per cent and travel advanced 0.8 per cent on Sunday.
Of the 397 issues traded, 166 advanced, 158 declined and 73 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also posted gains on Sunday, with the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) rising by 70.0 points and the All-Share Price Index (CASPI) increasing by 110.6 points.
