Standard Chartered Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers’ Association (BMMOA) to introduce an exclusive suite of banking privileges specifically for the nation’s mariners.
This initiative aims to deliver tailored financial solutions for mariners who frequently spend long periods away from home while managing their families’ financial needs and planning for the future, reads a press release.
The newly developed banking proposition offers Priority Banking privileges, preferential lending rates, and processing fee waivers on retail lending facilities. The package also includes annual fee waivers on eligible credit and debit cards.
Furthermore, eligible new and existing mariner clients will receive dedicated onboarding benefits, with newly onboarded clients eligible for cashback upon meeting specific balance and eligibility requirements.
Standard Chartered Bangladesh Managing Director and Wealth and Retail Banking Head Lutful Habib said meaningful banking begins with understanding the people the bank serves.
“Mariners spend long periods away from home yet remain intricately connected to the financial wellbeing of their families and the country,” he said, noting that these privileges are designed around their unique professional journeys.
BMMOA President Capt Md Anam Chowdhury remarked that the bank has recognised the distinct needs of the profession.
He noted that the collaboration addresses the realities of a mariner’s life, providing privileges that make their financial lives simpler and more rewarding while they continue to support their families and contribute to the country.
The MoU signing ceremony featured senior representatives from both organisations. Representing Standard Chartered Bangladesh were Priority and Wealth Management Head Faisal Haque, Deposits and Digital Banking Head Rana Shahid Hassan, Senior Product Manager, Deposits Rahanuma Tasrian Omee, Chittagong Main Branch Manager Azizur Rahman and Nasirabad Branch Manager Sajib Kazi.
