Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) organised a special ‘Media Networking Session’ in Dhaka to strengthen tourism ties and enhance coordination between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka’s tourism stakeholders.
The event took place at the ‘Kuakata’ Hall of Le Méridien Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
The session was presided over by Dharmapala Weerakkody, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh, alongside Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, and Mohammad Rafuzzaman, President of the Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB).
High Commissioner Weerakkody emphasised the potential for tourism cooperation, saying, “There is immense potential for the development and cooperation of the tourism sector between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. This initiative will serve as a milestone for the growth of the tourism industry in both nations.”
A special destination presentation highlighted Sri Lanka’s attractions, luxury travel facilities, family options, and improved air connectivity between the two countries.
Hewawasam noted Sri Lanka’s reputation as one of the safest and most attractive tourism destinations and assured that more affordable packages and enhanced services are now available for Bangladeshi tourists.
Rafuzzaman praised the event for fostering collaboration among tourism professionals and expressed hope for continued cooperation.
The second half of the programme included a question-and-answer session with media representatives, focusing on tourism prospects, airline connectivity, and facilities in Sri Lanka.
An exclusive ‘B2B Roadshow’ and Networking Evening for tourism trade partners will was held on Monday, at the Grand Ballroom of Le Méridien Dhaka.
Leading media professionals, tourism experts, and a high-level delegation from Sri Lanka will attend the event, which will conclude with a networking dinner.
