National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram has called on both the treasury bench and the opposition to work together to present a budget that improves public welfare.
He made the remarks while responding to reporters’ questions at Bhola Circuit House, emphasising that constructive criticism would be welcomed and that the opposition would be allotted sufficient time in parliament to fulfil its duties.
The Speaker noted that previous parliamentary sessions had demonstrated a spirit of cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties, and he expressed hope that such collaboration would continue. “In my view, the National Parliament has so far met the expectations of the people. In the coming days, it will be able to play an even better role,” he said.
Hafiz Uddin also expressed hope that all members of parliament would work to realise the aspirations and expectations of the public.
The Speaker arrived in his home district of Bhola on a four-day visit for Eid on Tuesday afternoon. After a stopover at Bhola Circuit House, he proceeded to his constituency in Lalmohan.
Bhola Deputy Commissioner Dr Shamim Rahman, District Council Administrator Golam Nabi Alamgir, and Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah Kawshar were among those present.
