Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad administered the oath of office to 49 newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the reserved seats for women on Sunday.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Jatiya Sangsad’s oath room and was conducted by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Other cabinet members in attendance included Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed; Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman; and State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam.

Of the 49 MPs who took the oath, 36 are from the BNP alliance, 12 represent the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance, and one is from the independent alliance.
The Speaker administered the oath in accordance with Article 148 of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Rule 5 of the Rules of Procedure of the Jatiya Sangsad.
Following the formal ceremony, the newly elected MPs signed the oath book in the Parliament Secretary’s room as per tradition.
The event was also attended by the deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, the chief whip, other whips, the opposition chief whip, and senior officials from the Parliament Secretariat.
