Spain’s AEMET weather agency on Tuesday declared a top‑level red heat alert in three eastern regions, warning that temperatures would climb above 40°C.
The regions of Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia are forecast to be among the worst hit as a fresh heatwave sweeps southern Europe this week, reports AFP.
Forecasters said the extreme conditions will persist until at least Thursday.
AEMET said the red alert signals potentially “very serious impacts” on health and property.
