South Point Sports Club (SPSC) has secured the second runner-up (3rd place) title in the Men’s Division at the 6th National Throwball Championship, which was organised by the Bangladesh Throwball Association. The two-day tournament featured a highly competitive field of the country’s leading throwball teams.
In the Men’s Division, the Bangladesh Jail Team emerged as champions, with the Bangladesh Police Throwball Club finishing as runners-up ahead of third-placed South Point Sports Club. In the Women’s Division, Bangladesh Ansar & VDP took the top spot, while Bangladesh Police finished as runners-up and Firoz Smriti Sangsad of Narail claimed third place.
A total of 16 teams—comprising eight teams each in the Men’s and Women’s divisions—took part in the championship. The event was inaugurated on 22 July at the Bangladesh Roller Skating Complex by Mohammad Aminul Ehsan, Director of the National Sports Council. Mirza Sifat-e-Khuda, Director (Sports & Culture) of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP, was also in attendance as the Special Guest for the opening ceremony.
The closing and prize distribution ceremony took place on 23 July, where Md Daulatuzzaman Khan, NDC, Executive Director of the National Sports Council, attended as the Chief Guest to present awards to the winners.
Other notable attendees included Dr Sharif Ashrafuzzaman, general secretary of the Bangladesh Throwball Association and Vice-Chancellor of Southern University; Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Roller Skating Federation; Md Din Islam, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Throwball Association and Member Secretary of the Tournament Committee; and B. M. Shahiduzzaman, Head of the Technical Committee and Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Throwball Association.
During his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the necessity of expanding throwball to schools, colleges, and district sports associations nationwide. He further assured the organisation of government support through the allocation of an office and training facilities for the Bangladesh Throwball Association.
South Point Sports Club (SPSC) adds this achievement to its record of success, having previously gained international recognition for Bangladesh as runners-up in the Boys’ Category at the Asian Throwball Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last year.
