Sonargaon University has held the players’ draft for its “SU Inter-Department Cricket Tournament-2026” at the Green Road campus, with 12 departmental teams taking part.
The draft, organised by Sonargaon University Sports Club, brought together students, faculty members, and national-level athletes, the university said in a press release.
Sonargaon University Board of Trustees Chairman Engineer Abdul Aziz attended as chief guest, while Board of Trustees General Secretary Engineer Abdul Alim inaugurated the event.
Board of Trustees Member Advocate Umme Salma, Advisor Azizul Bari Shipu, Vice-Chancellor in Acting Charge Mohammad Ekramul Islam, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Bulbul Ahmed were present.
Walton Group Additional Executive Director for Marketing and Communication Rabiul Islam Milton also attended, along with deans, heads of departments, teachers, and students.
The event was presided over by Sonargaon University Director of Sports Division Mehrab Hossain Jossy.
Students who are also national athletes joined the programme, including Bangladesh national cricket team players Mahidul Islam Ankon and Zakir Hasan, national women’s team player Taj Nehar, and Under-19 cricketer Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby.
Football players from Bangladesh Football Federation Under-19 and other categories, who are also students of the university, were also present.
The organisers said the tournament aims to promote student engagement in sports and strengthen unity among departments.
They added that the event also featured cultural performances, making the programme more vibrant.
