Eid-ul-Fitr usually drives a surge in smartphone sales in Bangladesh, with devices selling 15–40 per cent above average monthly volumes depending on the brand. Many consumers upgrade their phones or buy them as gifts using Eid bonuses or added business turnover.
This year, rising handset prices and overall economic uncertainty have slowed the seasonal market. Xiaomi Bangladesh Country Manager Ziauddin Chowdhury said demand has fallen 20–25 per cent compared with last Eid.
“Global price increases in mobile phone components have pushed local handset prices up by 15–20 per cent over the past year, which has affected consumer buying behaviour,” he said.
Among Xiaomi devices, the Redmi Note series—including Redmi Note 15, Redmi Note 15 Pro, and Redmi Note 15 Plus—remains most popular.
Xiaomi has launched a mega raffle offering prizes such as trips to Singapore, air fryers, televisions, and air purifiers. Customers also receive travel bags, smartwatches, and cashback.
Chowdhury said more buyers are opting for instalment plans rather than paying the full price upfront. According to smartphone retailers’ platform Mobile Business Community Bangladesh, devices priced around Tk30,000 are currently most popular.
While Eid normally drives strong smartphone sales, rising prices and limited supply in some segments have constrained demand this year.
The government’s plan to implement the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) has not yet affected the market. Unofficial handsets continue to be sold, and automatic registration remains in place.
Realme Bangladesh Assistant Manager for Public Relations and Branding Shahed Morshed Jaigirder said popular models this season include the realme C85, realme C85 Pro with IP69 water resistance, and the high-end realme 15 Pro.
“While Eid normally boosts sales 20–40 per cent above average, overall smartphone demand this year is slightly lower,” he said.
Realme is offering extended two-year warranties, a special Grameenphone package, foreign trips, cashbacks up to Tk5,000, and an online lottery worth Tk8 crore.
TECNO Bangladesh said demand usually rises 15–20 per cent in the two weeks leading up to Eid, but sales this year have remained steady, with a potential increase closer to the festival.
TECNO launched devices including the CAMON 50, CAMON 50 Ultra, and POVA Curve 2 5G. Prices have risen 5–10 per cent in some segments over the past year due to global component costs and exchange rate fluctuations.
The company’s TECNO Mega Eid Fest campaign offers AIoT device packs including laptops, smartwatches, tablets, and earbuds, along with six months of screen insurance, premium backpacks, zero down payment, and up to 12-month EMI facilities.
Smartphones priced between Tk20,000 and Tk30,000 are seeing the highest demand. Buyers are prioritising better cameras, premium design, and AI features.
TECNO officials said buyers are increasingly research-driven, influenced by online reviews, social media, and influencers.
Despite widespread promotional campaigns, many consumers are delaying purchases.
Industry observers said slower sales this Eid reflect rising prices, supply constraints, and evolving buying patterns. Shoppers are becoming more selective, prioritising features, value, and a premium experience over brand alone.
