Six teenagers have been arrested for killing an 11-year-old boy in Narayanganj’s Fatullah, with police saying the motive was curiosity about what prison life feels like.
Police disclosed the details at a briefing on Tuesday, where Narayanganj District Police Superintendent Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi outlined how the crime was planned and carried out.
The victim, Hossain, used to sell flowers in the city with his father and had been missing since the morning of 18 April.
Police said the suspects, who regularly gathered and used drugs at an abandoned house near Fatullah railway station, lured the boy there before killing him.
According to the police, three of the accused discussed that committing murder would lead to imprisonment and decided to experience it themselves.
They then targeted Hossain, offering him cannabis before taking him to the abandoned house where three others were already waiting.
The group stabbed him to death and left the body at the scene before fleeing.
Police arrested one of the group first, the prime accused, and based on his information, detained five more teenagers in phases.
In total, six suspects have been arrested, including four named in the case and two identified during investigation.
The prime accused, gave a confessional statement under Section 164, police said.
The knife used in the killing has been recovered, while one suspect remains at large.
