Six more people have died due to measles and measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours till Sunday morning across the country, while 1,517 new infections have been reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest deaths, one was confirmed as measles, while the remaining five were classified as suspected measles-related fatalities, the DGHS Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room said in a statement on Sunday.
During the same period, 1,274 suspected measles cases and 243 confirmed cases were recorded.
A total of 1,064 patients were admitted to hospitals, while 1,099 patients recovered and were discharged.
Health authorities said Dhaka Division continued to record the highest number of fatalities. Of the five suspected measles deaths reported in the last 24 hours, three were from Dhaka.
Over the past two months, the division has reported 153 suspected measles-related deaths, the highest in the country.
Between 15 March and 17 May, a total of 459 deaths have been recorded nationwide due to measles and suspected measles infections. Of these, 75 were confirmed as measles-related deaths, while 384 were classified as suspected cases. During this period, 57,846 suspected cases were reported across the country, with laboratory confirmation of measles in 7,767 patients.
So far, 42,092 patients have been hospitalised, while 37,744 have recovered following treatment.
According to DGHS data, Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of infections with 26,124 cases, followed by Rajshahi (9,414), Chattogram (8,622), Khulna (4,137), and Barishal (4,462).
Rangpur Division reported comparatively lower numbers, with 1,140 cases and four deaths to date.
To contain the outbreak, the government launched the nationwide “National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026” on 5 April.
The DGHS Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) and Surveillance Wing said the campaign has surpassed its target, with 18,223,445 children vaccinated against a target of 18,015,064-achieving 101 percent coverage.
Rajshahi Division reported the highest vaccination coverage at 103 percent, followed by Dhaka, Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Rangpur at 101-102 percent. Sylhet recorded 98 percent coverage.
In the last 24 hours alone, 26,950 children were vaccinated nationwide.
Among city corporations, Chattogram reported the highest coverage at 110 percent, followed by Gazipur (108 percent), Rajshahi (107 percent), and Dhaka North (105 percent).
However, coverage remains slightly lower in Rangpur (97 percent), Sylhet (98 percent), and Mymensingh City Corporation (99 percent).
