Two contrasting matches in the National Cricket League produced major individual milestones for Shuvagata Hom, Tanvir Islam and Al-Amin Junior, with one fixture ending in a commanding Barishal win and the other finishing as a draw in Khulna.
Shuvagata enters 300-wicket club as Al-Amin hits a century
Khulna’s high-scoring contest against Mymensingh at the Khulna Divisional Stadium drifted towards the expected draw, but it delivered two standout moments: Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury reached 300 first-class wickets, and Al-Amin Junior completed a superb unbeaten century.
Khulna had earlier posted 387 in their first innings, powered by a Soumya Sarkar hundred. Mymensingh matched that total by stumps on the third day, reaching 387 for 7 with Al-Amin (62*) and Arif Ahmed (59*) at the crease.
On the final morning, Arif fell short of a century, dismissed for 81 by Halim, but Al-Amin made no mistake. He remained unbeaten on 102 — his fourth first-class century and his first since the 2018–19 season. His innings also carried him past the 3,000-run mark in his 70th match. Azizul Hakim Tamim added 81, while Naeem Sheikh scored 57, guiding Mymensingh to a declaration at 459 for 8.
Trailing by 72, Khulna stumbled to 86 for 5 in the second innings, but no further wickets fell. They closed on 140 for 5 to confirm the draw. Soumya added 44, while Afif Hossain Dhrubo remained unbeaten on 38.
Shuvagata took 2 for 46, reaching his 300th first-class wicket when Samiun Bashir Ratul was caught off his bowling. He later removed Imranuzzaman to complete a landmark day.
Tanvir’s seven-wicket burst seals Barishal victory
At the Cox’s Bazar International Stadium, Tanvir Islam produced a match-winning spell, guiding Barishal to a six-wicket win over Dhaka. By the end of the third day, Barishal had already taken control, and they completed the job comfortably on the final afternoon.
Dhaka were dismissed for 169 in their second innings, unable to cope with Tanvir’s left-arm spin. He claimed 7 for 64, completing a nine-wicket haul for the match and earning the player-of-the-match award. The haul was his eighth five-wicket performance in 46 first-class matches and his second-best career figures.
Set just 102 to win, Barishal lost two early wickets but were never seriously troubled. Opener Iftikhar Hossain steered the chase with an unbeaten 57, having already passed 1,000 runs for the season with his 78 in the first innings.
Barishal crossed the line at 102 for 4, securing their second win of the campaign.
