Chevron Bangladesh has appointed Shu Xiong as its new managing director, effective 1 August, succeeding Eric M Walker after six years in the role at the country’s largest natural gas producer.
The appointment was announced in a company press release issued on Saturday.
Shu most recently served as managing director of Chevron’s China Business Unit, where she led the company’s upstream business and energy value chain activities while building partnerships across multiple joint venture operations.
Since joining Chevron in 2007, she has held senior leadership positions in strategy, forecasting, trading, operations and planning. Her responsibilities have included advising senior executives, supporting investment decisions, developing commercial opportunities and managing key partner and market relationships.
She holds an MBA from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Houston.
“I am excited to join the Bangladesh team and look forward to building on our 30-year partnership with the Government of Bangladesh and Petrobangla,” Shu said.
She said she was committed to strengthening that partnership to support the country’s energy needs while continuing Chevron’s investments in education, healthcare and economic development programmes benefiting local communities.
“My family and I are excited to make Bangladesh our home,” she added.
Chevron Bangladesh is the country’s largest producer of natural gas, accounting for about 60 per cent of domestic gas production and more than 83 per cent of domestic condensate output. The company operates three gas fields in northeastern Bangladesh under Blocks 12, 13 and 14 and has been operating in the country for three decades.
