A 40-year-old businessman named Kamruzzaman Khan Dipu has died after being beaten in the capital’s Khilgaon area due to previous enmity.
Police from the Khilgaon Police Station recovered the businessman’s body from Mugda Hospital at approximately 10:30pm on Friday. The body was subsequently sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Sumon Mia said Dipu was a permanent resident of Khilgaon C Block and the son of Shamsuddin Khan. He operated a water business in the local area.
According to the police, Dipu was abducted on a van from Khilgaon on Wednesday evening and taken to the Shahjahanpur area where he was beaten. He was later abandoned in the Khilgaon Railgate area on the same night.
Locals who discovered him informed his relatives, who then took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Although doctors advised that he be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as a matter of urgency, his relatives took him home because they lacked the necessary funds.
On Friday evening, his condition deteriorated again, and he was taken to the emergency department of Mugda Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
SI Sumon Mia further noted that a murder case has been filed at the police station on behalf of the relatives. Police are currently conducting operations to apprehend the accused.
