Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Gabriel Sistiaga has visited LafargeHolcim Bangladesh’s integrated building materials manufacturing facility in Chhatak, reviewing the company’s production operations, sustainability initiatives and community development programmes.
During the visit, the ambassador toured the plant’s production lines and clinker manufacturing operations, gaining insights into the facility’s industrial processes and upcoming strategic projects to support Bangladesh’s growing infrastructure needs, according to a company press release.
LafargeHolcim Bangladesh CEO Iqbal Chowdhury and members of the company’s leadership team welcomed the ambassador during the visit.
Sistiaga praised the company’s focus on innovation and sustainable industrial practices, highlighting Geocycle, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh’s waste management wing, for its role in promoting a circular economy through safe waste co-processing.
He also appreciated the company’s 17-kilometre cross-border belt conveyor, an engineering facility connecting India and Bangladesh that enables continuous and environmentally friendly transportation of raw materials.
The ambassador also highlighted LafargeHolcim Bangladesh’s corporate social responsibility initiatives in the remote Chhatak region, including healthcare services, primary education and specialised skill development programmes for women.
He said the company’s community initiatives demonstrated its broader socio-economic contribution to regional development and pledged support for its ongoing and future sustainability efforts.
Iqbal Chowdhury said the ambassador’s appreciation of the company’s sustainable manufacturing, circular economy initiatives and community development programmes would strengthen its commitment to green growth in Bangladesh.
“We remain dedicated to setting industry benchmarks in innovation, environmental stewardship and social responsibility,” he added.
