Shops and shopping malls will now remain open until 9pm instead of 7pm. The decision will be effective from Friday.
The information was announced on Thursday at a press conference by the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association.
Earlier, the association had demanded that markets, shopping malls and shops be allowed to remain open until 9:30pm in the interest of trade and business. They made the demand at a press conference held at their central office in Mogbazar, Dhaka.
Association President Md Helal Uddin said closing shops by 7pm had created a slowdown in retail business.
He said income of traders, employees and small entrepreneurs had declined.
He added that many shop owners were struggling to pay salaries of employees.
He urged that shops and markets be allowed to remain open until 9:30pm to maintain normal business activity.
