After Bangladesh’s historic Test victory on Australian soil, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto believes his side have shown enough in Darwin to dream of a series whitewash, but he knows they will have to reproduce the same level of cricket in Mackay and maintain consistency across all departments to achieve it.
Bangladesh secured their first-ever Test win on Australian soil with a nine-wicket victory in Darwin, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Shanto, however, stressed that the team cannot afford to get ahead of itself.
“Yes, we have that evidence, but we need to play good cricket. As I said before this Test match, we need to play five days of good cricket. So again, I am going to say the same thing, five days of cricket need to be played properly,” Shanto said.
The captain wants his side to stick to the same process that brought them success in Darwin, rather than focus too heavily on the possibility of a whitewash.
“Then, as we did in this Test match, follow the process and play session by session. Bowlers did their job, batsmen chipped in, and especially the lower middle order and the lower order, the way they batted. So those are the things we need to do in Mackay,” he said.
