A battery-powered rickshaw driver died after being electrocuted while charging his vehicle in the capital’s Hazaribagh area on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 55. He was declared dead by doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3pm after he was taken there in an unconscious state.
Rahman was from Enayetpur Sonapara village in Raniganj upazila of Naogaon district. He was the son of Abdur Rakib and lived on Maneshwar Road in Hazaribagh with his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Garage owner Md Arif Hossain said Rahman kept his battery-powered rickshaw at his garage on Maneshwar Road. Around 2pm, Rahman brought the vehicle to the garage and was electrocuted while connecting it to a charging point.
He was found unconscious and immediately taken to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead after examination, Arif said.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death, saying the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
